Sewn the Right Way

This past weekend I attended Boulevardia and as much as it is a beer fest, I was there to learn about Rightfully Sewn and their partnership with Lee.  Lee was the host sponsor for Boulevardia and money made from items purchased during their pop up at the festival were donated to The Rightfully Sewn organization {}.

Rightfully Sewn is an organization that started in September 2015 and provides seamstress training for at-risk women and works to establish Kansas City as an epicenter of garment manufacturing.

I had a chance talk with founder, Jennifer Lapka Pfeifer at Lee's pop up and was moved by her mission and commitment to helping at-risk women.  Along with providing seamstress training for at-risk women so they can thrive in a specialized workforce, while at the same time, propel Kansas City fashion designers to market so they can supply the burgeoning demand for high-quality, American-produced garments.  She spoke passionately about the first class that was recently done and the impact that this will have for these women, their families and Kansas City as a whole.

As word spreads and funding becomes more available, Rightfully Sewn will be able to open more classes and have a large scale impact on the women in Kansas City. You can donate a few ways: Donate online by visiting this page, or by mailing a check to Fractured Atlas with Rightfully Sewn in the memo line. The address is: Rightfully Sewn, PO Box 410861, Kansas City, Missouri 64141.

Be sure to follow their social media to see pictures of the classes that have been held and keep up with all the happenings of the project.
